Peter Stefanovic to leave Nine after 15 years

Weekend Today co-host Peter Stefanovic is leaving the Nine Network after 15 years.

The exit follows reports Stefanovic’s contract was due to expire at the end of this month.

Stefanovic has been with the network since 2004

Today, a Nine spokesperson said the network and Stefanovic had “mutually decided” to part ways.

“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife,” a Nine spokesperson said.

“He has been a respected member of the Nine News team and Weekend Today, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Stefanovic first joined the network in 2004 from WIN network, as a reporter for Nine News and ACA. In his time with the network, Stefanovic spent a number of years overseas, reporting from areas such as Gaza City and London.

This year he returned to Weekend Today as co-host alongside Allison Langdon. At the time, Stefanovic said it was a “privilege” to be asked back to the show.

However Stefanovic and his brother, Today Show co-host Karl Stefanovic, were later caught in controversy, over an incident in an Uber which allegedly involved the brothers speaking poorly about Nine and Stefanovic’s co-host, Georgie Gardner.

The pair later apologised for the rant.

Stefanovic said he had enjoyed his time at Nine as a foreign correspondent, news reporter and his time with 60 Minutes.

“I’ll miss my friends at Nine very much, it has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people,” Stefanovic said.
