Peter van Onselen to lead Ten’s political coverage
Ten has hired former Sky News commentator Peter van Onselen as its network political editor.
Van Onselen will appear across the network’s shows including The Project, Studio 10 and 10 News First. He will also contribute to website 10 Daily and contribute to new podcasting platform 10 Speaks.
He will start in the role next Monday December 10 and will report to the broadcaster’s director of news content Ross Dagan.
The appointment comes as broadcasters prepare for a federal election within the next few months.
Dagan said: “Peter is an experienced, award-winning journalist and commentator and it’s fantastic that he’ll be bringing his insights, experience and credibility to the network. He is respected across the industry and is skilled across all platforms.
“Peter will ensure we know exactly what’s going on in Canberra, even when the politicians might not want that to be the case.”
Van Onselen said: “Ten’s incredible team of journalists work exceptionally hard and are not afraid to be different. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of that. I can’t wait to get amongst it.”
Van Onselen, whose books included a biography of former PM John Howard, will also continue to write for The Australian.
It must feel good to get a job with relevance and influence rather than be a nutty laughable outsider. Always enjoyed your balanced commentary now the mainstream can benefit from it too.

Does Hugh Riminton still work for Ten, if so, why isn’t he the Canberra bureau chief. Maybe a question to ask CEO Paul Anderson.

Probably because PVO is a better fit with Ten’s under 50s audience proposition.

PVA had always been less of a lemming that other Aussie journalists. Unusually for someone in the press gallery he will happily throw out the pretence of neutrality when its called for. To his credit it doesn’t go one way or the other, he will stick the knife into the left or the right when their actions are silly enough.

Of course, the under 50s.
And nothing to do with political interference, as we’ve seen at the ABC!!!!

Peter van Onselen does not do balanced reporting and does not impress at all. The Project was one of may favorite programs but whilst he is in the chair I wont watch
