Peter Wells joins Acast to launch podcast about podcasts

Podcast journalist has partnered with Acast to launch a new podcast about podcasts, titled Meta.

The announcement:

One of Australia’s most renowned podcast journalists, Peter Wells has partnered with Acast to launch Meta, a podcast celebrating the art of podcasting with leading
local creators.

Since 2015, Wells has documented the rise of podcasting in Australia as Nine Entertainment Co’s dedicated podcast reporter. From former Prime Ministers and household-name celebrities to up-and-coming talent, Wells’ weekly column in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age profiles the movers and shakers of Australian podcasting.

Hosted and distributed by Acast, the world’s largest podcast company, Meta introduces listeners to podcast industry heavyweights and highlights how Australia has cemented itself as a podcasting world-leader. Series one of Meta includes discussions with the voices behind some of Australia’s most iconic podcasts, including former Prime Minister Julia Gillard (A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard) and the ABC’s Dr Norman Swan (Coronacast) as well as journalists Ruby Jones (7am, landmark daily news show) and Rachael Brown (Trace, Walkley Award-winning investigative series).

Peter Wells said: “Whether listeners are new to podcasting or on the hunt for the next
binge-worthy series, Meta allows me to share the fantastic behind the scenes stories that I just can’t fit into 600 words of print. Each week I’ve had the opportunity to chat to amazing guests and meet some of my podcasting idols. My favourite interviews have been with independent podcasters. They often contact me about the impact the column has had on growing their audience or even how their mum bought the paper and framed the story.

Podcasting has handed power back to both the creator and consumer, so that be you a news junky or true crime obsessive there is a podcast for you. In partnering with Acast I know Meta will be supported by a local team that amplifies its creators through great technology, marketing and content support.”

Guy Scott-Wilson, Content Director for Australia and New Zealand at Acast, said: “As one of Australia’s most vocal supporters of the format, Peter Wells has undoubtedly been a driving force behind the rise of podcasting in Australia. Through his continued support of local content, Peter has often helped elevate Aussie talent to podcast stardom. What I love about Meta, is that it not only celebrates the best of local content, but will also be a great source of discovery for Australians who are wondering what to listen to next. We’re delighted to be supporting Peter on this project and look forward to helping him share the strength of Australian podcasting with listeners around the globe.”

Episodes of Meta – A Podcast About Podcasts are available on Acast, Apple Podcasts or wherever you choose to listen to your podcasts.
