PHD – more creative than 23 creative agencies
To the Adshel creative challenge where nearly 30 agencies did battle with just an hour to crack an outdoor brief for youth charity Headspace.
And among the 25 creative agencies were two interlopers in the guise of media agencies PHD and Mediacom.
BMF won top honours and the trip to New York. Ad agency The Works was also highly commended.
But PHD out created the rest of the creatives, also winning highly commended.
Which sets a dangerous precedent the next time a client does an all agency briefing.

Yes Adam…. MediaCom. They’ve hired a lot of ex-creative agency people recently and it seems to be working for them by looks of the work that’s being produced and the clients they’re winning.

Nice one media folk. I imagine the media agency teams that scored highly were the ones that have sat in umpteen creative presentations where the outdoor ‘work’ is revealed, with more text than Stantaram and a logo buried in the corner that would look small on a business card

Agree it’s indicative of the growing trend for ‘media’ agencies moving into creative/strategy. I remember you talking at the StarCom series perhaps a year ago, Tim, and saying exactly this.
I’m also interested to see some of the results – http://www.headspace.org.au is a fantastic, and much deserving organisation (dis: worked there for three years), but has incredibly tough creative briefs (understandably considering it’s youth mental health and suicide prevention)… is there a link to the creative put forward? On a side note, would love to see the difference in creative concepts between a trad creative (eg BMF) and a trad media (eg PHD)?

Well done to the winner, BMF and all the highly commended. A great creative idea can come from anywhere and there are brilliant thinkers in all these businesses. Nice to see PHD and Mediacom getting amongst it. Would love to see the entries.
