Ping Works and Canvas Group merge to create full-service agency District

Digital agency Ping Works and creative agency Canvas Group have announced their merger, creating new agency brand District.

The merger will combine the agencies’ technological, creative and design capabilities.

Tim Stokoe, co-founder of Ping Works and now content director of District, said the merger came about after the agencies worked closely on a number of major clients.

“Technology and creative are progressively merging, yet there are very few players in the marketplace who have the combined skills, knowledge and credibility to deliver effectively on both fronts. That’s why we established District,” Stokoe said.

“Whilst the District brand may be new, the constituent parts have been working together for over 10 years now on major projects for blue-chip clients like Nestlé, Panasonic, NRMA, Thrifty Car Rental, and PGH Bricks (CSR). In the process, we have won a raft of design honours for creativity and design innovation, whilst delivering complex digital platforms for heavy-weight corporates.

“The merger was a natural progression and we are very excited to take this new offering to the market,” Stokoe concluded.

Jorge Castillo, District executive creative director and founder of the Canvas Group, said: “Both Canvas and Ping are already successful and respected agencies. By combining our skill sets we can better deliver against the specific needs of marketers looking to engage with their audiences to achieve real business results.”

Alongside the agencies’ existing clients, District has also won its first clients as a combined agency. The Australian National Maritime Museum, Westrac Caterpillar, Department of Planning and Environment, MDA National and Cancer Council NSW have each engaged the agency for different services.

Setareh Mahdian, MDA National marketing manager, commented on selecting the agency.

“District was a stand-out for us in the pitch process as they demonstrated a fresh and unique approach that combined high-end technical expertise with award-winning design capabilities, all in one package,” Mahdian said.
