Pitch Perfect opens solidly for Universal

Pitch Perfect has opened with a solid $8,957 screen average over the weekend at the Australian box office.

The American musical comedy made $2.598m in its opening weekend across 290 screens, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

The film stars Australian comedian Rebel Wilson and is directed by Jason Moore.

With a substantial pre-release screening of 212 screens last weekend, the film now stands at $3.567m for distributor Universal.

The earnings weren’t enough however to top Skyfall’s continuing run. Now in its third weekend, the James Bond film remains on the top of the box office table and made $4.656m, taking its total Australian box office to $32.229m.

The debut feature film from rapper RZA, The Man with the Iron Fists starring Russell Crowe and Lucy Lui made $157,000 on 45 screens for a $3,497 screen average.

Meanwhile, Clint Eastwood’s latest film The Trouble with the Curve made $132,000 across 85 screens for a $1,556 screen average.

Australian film-maker Ben Lewin’s latest, The Sessions added another $54,900 to its total, taking the film to $1.085m for distributor Fox.
