The Playroom’s Cora Spear moves to Yahoo!7 as head of TV
Yahoo!7 has hired Cora Spear, general manager of client services and digital at The Playroom, as head of TV.
Spear takes on the role coordinating the online platform’s digital television partnerships ahead of the imminent launch of HBBTV in Australia, after the digital publisher’s former head of TV Kristin Carlos departed on maternity leave.
Carlos was head of TV for seven years and was promoted to director of connected entertainment in March. Yahoo!7 confirmed this is a separate role to Spear’s as head of TV.
Spear leaves her job at the Playroom, Omnilab Media’s broadcast and digital services division on Friday, to start her new job at Yahoo!7 on Monday.
The Playroom focuses on commercialising content across broadcast, IPTV and digital platforms and Spear has worked there as general manager of client services and digital for over three years.
Spear has around 20 years’ experience in the industry, and she started up agency Wanted Digital in 2008. She had previously worked with advertising agencies and production companies such as Ogilvy, McCann, Beyond Film and Television and Hyro Limited.
Yahoo!7 confirmed Carlos’ job as director of connected entertainment is entirely separate to Spear’s new job as head of TV.
Carlos, who is married to Omnicom Group CEO Leigh Terry and featured in Mumbrella’s power couples feature last year, has worked with Yahoo for over 12 years. She started as a marketing executive for Yahoo! Europe in 2002, then worked her way up to PR and corporate communications manager at Yahoo! in the UK, before moving to Sydney as marketing integration manager.
Carlos was also a board director for the industry body for interactive content AIMIA for two years until April 2011.

Is it necessary to note who K Carlos is married to?

So, is the connected to her role as head of TV.. or is it entirely separate?

I also feel that mentioning Kristin’s marriage with her promotion is out-dated, sexist and completely inappropriate Mumbrella. Having worked with Kristin previously, she an outstanding executive, who will only flourish in her new role. Terrible journalism…are we back in the 50s?

Congratulations Cora!!

Why mention one woman’s marital status but not the others- just weird.

Thanks for the comments,
I’ve added a line to the story to explain the reason we included Kristin Carlos’ marriage to Leigh Terry – as they appeared in a power couple’s feature we wrote last year.
Obviously this is not normally information we put in stories, but on this occasion it helps set context around the story and industry.
Cheers,
Alex, Mumbrella
Well done Cora !!
