Podcast downloads take slight dip with Hamish & Andy rising to the top

Podcast downloads in the month of July fell slightly for the second month in succession, with 47.8 million downloads from participating publishers, as reported by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.

Hamish & Andy has knocked off Audioboom’s Casefile True Crime podcast as the number one ranked podcast in Australia for the first time since January, jumping a single place also for the second month in a row.

Following a trend seen over the past 18 months, podcast numbers took a slight dip as much of the country entered lockdowns, with Australia’s largest city, Sydney, spending the majority of the month under restrictions.

Podcast numbers steadily grew in 2020 following easing of restrictions across the majority of Australia, as daily commutes returned, with downloads declining over the holiday period.

Elsewhere in the top ten, ARN/iHeartMedia’s Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne remained in fifth spot, ARN/iHeartPodcast Network Australia retaining four of the five top spots. Nova’s The Update and Schwartz Media’s 7am podcast also remained in sixth and seventh. News Corp’s Sky News – News Bulletin was the only new entry into the top ten spots, rising four spots to eighth.
