Politicians to scrutinise how sports reporting is affected by commercial deals
The reporting of sports news in the digital age is to be the focus of a parliamentary hearing.
The Senate Standing Committee on Environment, Communications and the Arts will examine the issue over the next couple of months and is due to issue a report by mid May.
The areas it will be examining include:
- The balance between protecting sporting organsiations’ commercial interests and fair access to events for reporting issues;
- Whether sporting organisations could limit the frequency of updates to news reports;
- The use of accreditation of journalists by sporting bodes to control reporting.
