A PR masterclass from PwC in how to become more gender diverse
Dr Mumbo was impressed to read in today’s Australian Financial Review about a big jump in gender diversity among the Australian leadership of consultancy PwC.
The big move – “bumping female representation up from 25% to 43%” – was page lead, so impressed was the AFR with the improvement.
And how was this leap forward – headlined “More women among PwC’s leadership” – achieved overnight? Once has to carefully read the story to understand.
Previously there were three women on the leadership team of 12. Now the size of the leadership team has been reduced to seven.
But there are still three women on the new leadership board.
And guess what? Three out of 12 is 25%. And three out of seven is 43%.
By an amazing coincidence, the move comes just five weeks ahead of PwC’s self-imposed deadline of having at least 40% of women on its leadership team by this July.
Which by Dr Mumbo’s calculations means that a leap from 25 to 43 means PwC is now 72% more gender diverse.
Whether that means there are really “more women” is, Dr Mumbo supposes, a matter for the sub editors of the AFR.
Creative accounting indeed.
Cmon. This is unreal.

More gender diverse, as long as females arrive to work each day in heels. Weird article when they’ve had negative PR lately.
