PRIA hires Lonergan for industry benchmarking research

Public relations industry body PRIA’s Registered Communications Group has appointed research consultancy Lonergan to complete an industry benchmarking study.

The announcement:

The PRIA Registered Communications Group (RCG), has recently appointed Lonergan as a research consultancy to drive new quantitative and qualitative research for the industry. The RCG is the
industry body for public relations and communications CEOs, MDs and senior members of staff, and has been conducting an independent study, benchmarking member agencies against communication consultancy industry averages in Australia for some 19 years. The opportunity to refresh and evolve the research has now arisen.

The benchmark research has looked at consultancy performance, changing practise and business outlook. It was designed to support member insights and communications, media and PR activity
and assist in building an industry thought leadership. Participants bespoke reports indicate how their agency compares on metrics, including revenue, margin and net profit, client size by revenue,
staff salaries, and staff and client retention.

An integral part of RCG operations, and of great utility to its members, the RCG has recently undertaken a process to appoint a new researcher and revitalise the research to reflect a changed
PR and communications industry.

Lonergan was founded in 2009 by Chris Lonergan and offers creative full-service solutions including qualitative and quantitative research, with specialist services in many client areas. Their key
segments include Government, Commercial, PR and Communication.

Lonergan Founder and CEO, Chris Lonergan said: “We work closely with PR & Communications professionals every day, developing research projects that help them build creative content for leading media, content and thought leadership campaigns.”

“We’re keen to bring that same creativity and strategic thinking to industry research that supports our PR & Comms partners in reaching their business goals, and identifies key business issues and
trends. We believe the benchmarking research is incredibly important to the industry, and we can bring a rigorous approach to evolving the current design. Our focus will be on improving the questionnaire experience and ensuring the outputs are useful and actionable.”

Lonergan will be conducting in-depth interviews with RCG members to gather an understanding of what elements of the research they’d like to see change and which are most important to their
business. Alongside this they will continue an optimised annual benchmark survey and begin quarterly pulses tackling topical industry issues.

RCG Chair, Lisa Portolan, said: “We’re incredibly excited to have Lonergan onboard and to begin this next chapter on benchmarking research and quarterly pulses. Not only are the findings incredibly valuable to our members, but the new-look pulses will also help us shape and drive communications in Australia.”

“We will continue providing important insights and value to our members to assist them grow their business, and conduct meaningful work.”
