Prime Video launches first standalone live sports channel
Amazon’s Prime Video has partnered with sports network beIN SPORTS to launch its first standalone live sports channel for Australian users.
The beIN SPORTS channel will be available to current Prime members as an optional paid add-on, offering more than 3,500 live sports events a year, for the cost of $14.99 a month.
BeIN SPORTS has the broadcast rights to a number of football tournaments including Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the English Football League, the Carabao Cup, Scottish Professional Football League and the Africa Cup of Nations.
The channel will also include tennis, with the ATP and WTA tours, as well as the European Rugby Union.
Head of Amazon Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, Hushidar Kharas, said: “This new partnership with beIN SPORTS is an exciting step forward for Prime Video’s sports offering, and gives our customers more choice of the best live and on-demand sports, all in one place.
“We know our Australian customers are obsessed with live sport, and the add-on of beIN SPORTS via Prime Video Channels will unlock thousands of marquee events for football, tennis, and rugby enthusiasts.”
beIN Asia Pacific managing director, Mike Kerr, added: “This partnership with Prime Video Channels marks a significant milestone for beIN SPORTS as we continue to enhance the sports viewing experience for fans in Australia. Through this exciting alliance, we are not only expanding our reach but also ensuring that the sports community have unparalleled access to our premium and exclusive sports coverage.
“We remain deeply committed to serving the passionate fans in the region and look forward to working closely with Prime Video Channels to reach new audiences and elevate engagement by providing a top-notch sports entertainment experience.”
The new channel adds to a growing list of add-ons Prime Video has offered its users, including in-app subscriptions to Paramount+, BritBox, Hayu and AMC+.
Foxtel should never have let beIN walk out the door.
