Prime7 launches 7Flix across regional NSW, ACT, Victoria and Gold Coast

It’s been nearly 18 months since regional viewers complained about lack of access to Seven Network’s new channel 7Flix, but today Prime7 has announced the channel will launch across regional NSW, ACT, Victoria and Gold Coast.

The channel, which was announced in February last year, promised “movies to fall in love with” and “big shows you can’t get enough of”.

It also features rom-com movie clips and children’s programming.

However, upon its launch on February 28, regional viewers were left disappointed, and took to the 7Flix Facebook page to ask why they could not access the new station.

At the time, Prime said in a statement to Mumbrella it had “no commercial arrangements” in place to carry the new channel saying it is “technically challenging, takes time and requires substantial capital investment” to broadcast a new channel to vast regional areas.

Last year’s comments from regional viewers

“From a broadcast engineering perspective, regional broadcasters are far more complex businesses than metro operations, covering larger geographic areas with multiple signals that service a large number of local areas across regional Australia. We will certainly update viewers if and when this new service becomes available in regional areas,” they said.

Today, Prime7 said it would ‘delight’ regional viewers with the ‘programs they love’ such as Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, Scandal and The Amazing Race.

Sitcoms including Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory, The Nanny and Married with Children will also be featured through 7Flix, which will run on Channel 66.

Prime said some television sets may need retuning or upgrading to access 7Flix, which will be available from September 3.
