Protests, AI and blackjack: reporting live from Adobe in Las Vegas

In this week's Mumbrellacast, former Nine and Fairfax execs Chris Janz and David Eisman to launch their own subscription news platform, Scire, while News Corp spruikes its shopfront capabilities at its annual D_Coded event. On Monday evening Mumbrella reported that former Nine and Fairfax publishing heavyweights, Chris Janz and David Eisman are launching their own news subscription platform name Scire, after securing funding from private equity firm Shearwater Capital. The team break down Janz and Eisman’s experience in the landscape, and why their news start up might be taken more seriously than others in the space.

Then, the team debrief on News Corp’s D_Coded event on Monday, where the the publishing conglomerate revealed a new suite of data and tech offerings to “tap into the whole funnel”. The company has launched a new vertical video platform across a number of its mastheads, in response to increase mobile traffic, and spoke on a new Total Commerce proposition, seeing the evolution of the publisher’s offering to clients, from billboard to shopfront.

Next, Bullfrog has become the latest indie creative house to score senior talent from a holding company agency, welcoming Saatchi & Saatchi’s head of creativity, Simon Bagnasco, and chief strategy officer, Alex Speakman as partners. The pair complete the agency’s new ownership structure, alongside recently appointed managing director Matilda Hobba and CEO Dalton Henshaw. With the pair joining a hoard of ex-holding company talent to take a stake in an indie agency, the team discusses where the power lies the agency landscape, and whether the indies versus the holdcos discussion is a trend we can expect to see continue.

Finally, with Calum Jaspan is on the ground at the 2023 Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, the team gets the inside scoop on the latest Adobe product launches, the big themes to emerge from the first first days of seminars, and what is, and isn’t hitting. Calum speaks with Adobe head of APAC product marketing, Jeremy Wood, UNSW head of marketing and campaigns, Carmen Michael, and president of digital transformation firm Bounteous, Michael McLaren.
