PwC’s Megan Brownlow steps down to focus on board roles and a tree change

Megan Brownlow has stepped down from her position as PwC partner, national industry leader for technology, media and telecommunications.

Brownlow, the face of PwC’s annual industry market report, has made the move to focus on her industry and charity board roles, telling Mumbrella she’s looking forward to spending more time with her chickens and bees following a move out of the city.

“I’ve been sitting on boards as a NED for 15 years now, but just in a part-time, pro-bono capacity,” Brownlow said.

“I started back in 2004 when I was a CMO, by becoming a director of the Arts Law Centre of Australia (which provides free legal advice to struggling artists). I think it’s really important for people in our industry, and especially women, to start building their board muscles early.

“The best way to do that is to give your time for free on charity or industry association boards. This change for me is really about turning boards into a full time job. I’m retiring from the PwC partnership to allow me to do that.”

A PwC spokesperson told Mumbrella Brownlow will continue to serve as a non-executive director with the firm: “She will continue to fill out her board portfolio with suitable non-executive director roles in the TMT sector regionally.

“PwC’s TMT thought leadership program, the Outlook, will be lead by CMO Advisory partner, Justin Papps.”

Over her career, Brownlow has worked in various media roles including director of strategic integration at Publishing and Broadcasting Limited between 2002 and 2004, producer for Andrew Denton’s Enough Rope interview program and current affairs producer with Nine during the late 1990s.

Brownlow told Mumbrella she is open to more directorships, saying: “I don’t want many directorships – maybe two or three more – because it’s more work than the typical board meeting schedule suggests.”

“To do it well you have to be thinking constantly about the organisations you’re helping steer – and genuinely care for them.

“Also, I live in the country now – I have chickens and bees – and I want to spend more time outdoors.”
