The “Our Australia” series has been filmed in each state and territory with each film telling a story of Australians and their relationship with the country, its people and the land.
Qantas group executive brand, marketing and corporate affairs, Olivia Wirth said in a statement: “There are so many Australians doing extraordinary things everyday and Tropfest has provided us with the perfect platform to tell just a few of these stories.”
The airline has also launched a Tropfest channel on its inflight entertainment program which will feature a selection of the best Tropfest films from the past 20 years and will also be loaded with a selection of the December 2013 finalists.
Wirth said: “Our involvement with Tropfest Australia forms part of our wider strategy to foster Australian talent, helping creative young Australians in their artistic endeavours and to pursue their dreams, both in Australia and around the world.”
Qantas has also released the first film in the series which tells the story of Charlie Maher, the first Indigenous Australian to run the New York Marathon in 2010 as part of the Indigenous Marathon Project. The full eight piece series will be officially released at Tropfest Australia on Sunday 8 December.

First film sounds an awful lot like “Running to America,” which aired on the ABC in 2011 (I think?)
It was about Rob de Castella coaching Aboriginal kids from the outback to run the NY Marathon.
Including Charlie Maher.
Same film?

Great stuff, QANTAS. The world’s largest short film festival not only nurtures future stars it’s such a fantastic demand driver tourist attraction, leveraging the economic power of “related variety”. Well done making this investment.
