Radio icon Philip Brady to end his time on 3AW’s Nightline
Philip Brady OAM has made the decision to end his time as a host of 3AW’s Nightline as of September 26. Brady has been a host of the program for almost 30 years.
Brady will still continue to appear on 3AW’s Remember When with longtime producer and on-air partner Simon Owens every Sunday night from 10pm to midnight.
Brady has been a fixture of the Melbourne media industry for over 60 years, and said the team at 3AW feel like family.
“3AW is family to me. Apart from almost 30 years of Nightline, I was the station’s casual weekend music presenter right through the 1970s so my heart is at 3AW and will continue to be so. Thanks to all our loyal listeners, callers and regulars; it has been a fun ride so far and will continue to be so at weekends. Long may our hearts beat together,” said Brady.
Nightline currently runs from 10pm to midnight Monday to Friday. From September 30, Nights with John Stanley will run from 8pm to midnight on weekdays. Stanley said Brady and Owens leave big shoes to fill – Owens has been Brady’s producer and on-air partner since the death of Bruce Mansfield three years ago.
“Philip is a giant of our industry and for me, it’s a daunting but exciting challenge to move into the space so successfully occupied by Philip, Bruce and Simon over so many years. It’s been a privilege being on 3AW this year from 8pm to 10pm and I’ll be striving to maintain the Nightline tradition of entertaining and engaging radio between 10pm and midnight. The late night audience is loyal, interesting and often colourful. I’m looking forward to talking to and hearing from them,” said Stanley.
3AW holds a commanding share in the Melbourne radio landscape, with the latest GfK radio ratings showing a leading 16.6% share in the 7pm – midnight evening slot. The closest rival is 101.9 Fox FM with 8.9%.
Owens said: “Nightline began in April 1970 hosted by Don Taylor and has had a raft of hosts including Donovan Joyce, John McIntosh, Alex Kenworthy, Derryn Hinch, Bruce Mansfield, Philip Brady, and myself. John Stanley is intelligent, informative, and great company and I know he will continue the strong tradition of late night radio on 3AW.“

John Stanley is.. John Stanley. Silly question. As a Melbourne person, I have not heard of him until today. Would have been better with Steve Price, at least he had some Melbourne back story. Let’s wait n see shall we.
