The Block beats House Rules but Seven wins the night

Channel Nine’s The Block edged out Seven’s competing home renovation show House Rules last night with 1.367m viewers from 7-8pm, over House Rules’s 1.139m, OzTAM’s preliminary metro ratings show.

The Block was also the most watched show among 25-54’s, with 709,000 metro viewers in the category, just ahead of House Rules’s 557,000.

Competing with Channel Nine for the 25-54 demographic in the 7.30pm time slot was Ten’s Masterchef, which scored eighth in the category with 417,000 viewers aged 25-54, and 745,000 across all age groups.

Although ABC1’s 7.30 had more total viewers than Masterchef, with 768,000 total viewers, the show had a lower rating among 25-54s.

Ten’s drama series Offspring was fourth in the 25-54 category with 527,000 viewers in the demographic from 8.30pm, while Channel Nine’s Arrow had 426,000 viewers aged 25-54. Arrow had a slightly higher total audience of 856,000 over Offspring’s 847,000.

Nine News at 6pm was the most watched show of the night with an audience of 1.38m, and A Current Affair at 6.30pm on Nine was the fourth most watched show of the night with 1.14m viewers.

Hot Seat on Channel Nine at 5.30pm featuring contestants from The Block had 790,000 viewers last night.

Despite Nine’s strong performance, Seven, which aims to reach all demographics, had audiences of 1.231m for Seven News, 1.139m for House Rules and 1.056m for Today Tonight.

Seven won the night with a 22.6 per cent of the total audience over Nine’s 21.3 per cent. Ten scored 13.7% of the audience while ABC1 had 12.4%.

Seven also won the morning battle with Sunrise drawing 343,000 viewers over Nine’s 314,000 for Today, and Early Sunrise had an audience of 170,000 over Early Today’s 161,000. The Morning Show had 149,000 over Mornings 129,000 on Channel Nine.
