Rebel Wilson happily gets stranded in latest Tourism Fiji ad

Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson has fronted another advertising campaign, this time in Tourism Fiji’s latest campaign.

It is the first major campaign from Tourism Fiji since the appointment of former South Australian Tourism Commission executive director of marketing Brent Hill took on the role of CEO in July.

In the 90-second master video for the campaign, Wilson is seen on a ramshackle boat, pontificating on how to find happiness. Wilson then lands in Fiji, to be welcomed by locals with “Bula”, exploring resorts and football pitches. It ends with fellow tourist ‘Steve’ also arriving in Fiji, before Wilson and Steve walk on the beach together.

Steve was first featured in The Hallway’s November campaign.

There are also 60-second, 30-second and 15-second cuts of the campaign.

On the campaign, Hill said: “We’re so proud to launch this campaign, featuring the brilliant Rebel Wilson! What a pleasure it was working with someone so talented, and who truly embraced everything Fiji is about – from our natural beauty, to our people and our local musicians, producers and talent. Fiji is truly Open for Happiness, and this was such a special campaign for us to make, in Fiji. We are thrilled to once again finally be able to welcome our visitors back from around the globe to the shores of Fiji – it has been a long time coming.

“Safety has of course been paramount as we have been planning Fiji’s re-opening, so we have a number of systems in place that aim to protect both visitors and our community. Welcome home to Fiji!”

Saatchi & Saatchi CCO, Steve Cochran, said:“Fiji’s platform of ‘Where Happiness Finds You’ was perfectly set for the mindset of travellers right now. We thought Rebel was ideal for bringing this story to life with her Australasian connection to the Pacific, having her own personal transformation journey and of course she’s a damn funny and talented actor.”

Fiji opened its borders to international travellers on 1 December, although there are COVID-19 safety measures in place such as visitors needing to be fully vaccinated and be tested for COVID both prior and after arrival.

Wilson has also previously fronted campaigns for buy-now-pay-later company Afterpay.
