Recognition PR and Outsource acquire Write Away

In a three-way take over, Sydney-based Write Away Communication + Events has been bought by Recognition PR and marketing services firm Outsource for an undisclosed sum.

The deal will see Write Away, which launched in 1986, move to Recognition PR’s Circular Quay office from March 28. The agency’s name will remain unchanged, and its principal, Jody Hammond, will take on a new role as general manager.

Outsource and Recognition PR are owned by Elizabeth Marchant and Adam Benson.

Benson told Mumbrella: “We’ve known the guys at Write Away for quite a few years. They started talking about an exit plan, and we said we’d be very interested. The more we talked, the more it seemed like a good fit.”

“Write Away’s client-base includes consumer technology, lifestyle, building and not for profit – all areas we want to expand into.  It also has several B2B accounts.

Write Away’s clients include Boral, Breville, HPM Legrand, Ricoh, Uniden, Wormald, Fujitsu General and Villeroy & Boch.

Benson added that his company will continue to look at specialist PR agencies as it continues on the acquisition trail.

“We want to look at PR agencies in the financial services, industrial and agri-business sectors, particularly. We see the most lucrative new business opportunities in specialist PR,” he said.

Recognition PR, Write Away and Outsource together employ 19 full-time staff and up to 17 telemarketers. However, Benson revealed that he’s on the look-out for two business to business consultants.
