Red Agency hired to make Queensland rail ‘sexy’ for younger travelers
Queensland Rail Travel has hired a PR agency in a bid to make rail travel “sexy” and more appealing to younger audiences.
The Red Agency Melbourne has been appointed to boost the profile of the operator among the southern states as well as abroad, particularly the US and UK.
“The image of rail travel in Australia tends to be associated with older travelers, and yet young Australians use trains a lot when they’re traveling overseas. We’re looking to help make rail travel sexier,” Red Agency account manager Sam Watson told Mumbrella.
Queensland Rail Travel GM Max Kruse said: “When we set out to engage a PR agency we were looking for a company with extensive contacts in the consumer travel and trade media as well as the creative flair to take our messages to a broader audience. Red Agency certainly fits the criteria thanks to its considerable history in working with clients in the tourism industry. The fact that they have offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne is also a great plus for us.”
Red Agency already works with travel and tourism brands including Accor, Tourism Australia, Hilton Melbourne South Wharf, Stayz and Avalon Airport.
How about they start with making it work, affordable and fast. Then we’ll talk

Travelled all over the world on trains and extensively interstate on them. Image isn’t the problem here.

Not the image at all. Please check the prices and you see it is not a budget friendly way to travel in this country for young people. I know it is the same opinion as James but there are so many people thinking the same so I didn’t mind repeating.

Yeah, because young people are TOTALLY going to choose an over-priced Queensland rail trip over a $500 two-week holiday in Thailand. Right.

There are two-week holidays in Thailand for just $500? Where do I sign up! 😉

You are over dressed if you have your teeth on QRail

Eurail pass – 15 countries in 3 months – less than $500
Brisbane to Cairns and back – more than $500
Tough brief.

@ The Internetz I was exaggerating. I didn’t think it would need explanation, but like most people commenting here I’m saying that a Queensland Rail holiday would be vastly more expensive than the majority of overseas destinations generally favoured by young people.

You can make it look as sexy as you like, but it’s the price that needs to come down.

Fly Brisbane – Cairns return at the right time and it’s probably $200. This is not a job for an agency.

Trains: shit version of planes since 1960.

The last time I took a long distance QR trip it was like flying Qantas, including no leg room and crabby staff. But unlike on a plane, a whole night spent in horrid conditions meant I only ended up in crappy Rockhampton instead of overseas.

So why are there hundreds of young people from overseas A: coming here for a holiday and not their own country, and B: Many travel via QR?
The people I’ve met from Travel Train have been some of the most amazing service staff types I’ve ever come across.
It’s a pity that QR are no longer offering to carry your motor vehicle with you though. Bad move that. That means we either have to hire a car at our destination (big excesses if in an accident) or we drive instead of taking the train.
Oh yes, Amelia, the new trains have more leg room I’m told.
