The announcement:

Multi-award winning PR, social and experiential agency, Red Agency, has announced that is partnering with Australian yachtswoman Lisa Blair. The agency is tasked with raising Lisa’s profile as she prepares to become the first female to circumnavigate Antarctica solo at the end of this year and break a world record.

The public relations contract with Red Agency – recently crowned CommsCon Large PR Agency of the Year 2014 – will also support Lisa and her participation as the only female competitor in the Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Race, which commences in New Plymouth, NZ, on the 20th April.

Lisa said, “I’m thrilled to be working with Red Agency, they have a proven track-record in helping raise funds for ambitious sports projects, including the Australian Women’s Bobsled team that competed in Sochi this year. The money I am raising will help me obtain the right yacht and necessary equipment, so that I can look to make history and put Australia on the solo circumnavigation map.  Yacht racing is a self-funded sport so I am using crowdfunding site, Sportaroo, to encourage Australians to get behind me as I journey to make my world record dream a reality.”

The Sunshine Coast local has been in training with Bruce Arms, who managed Jessica Watson during her campaign to be the youngest person to around the world.  A former winner of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Lisa’s epic bid to circumnavigate Antarctica solo, will be her most difficult yet – no female has ever completed it and only two men have done the task solo.

“The Solo Trans-Tasman experience will be my first ever solo trip and I’ll treat it as a warm up in solo preparation and training for Antarctica.  Following the race, my focus will be on sourcing a yacht for the Antarctica challenge in eight months.”

Anna Murphy, Account Director at Red Agency Brisbane, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Lisa, she’s such an inspiring individual who has overcome so many obstacles to achieve her dream of breaking new ground in sailing. Working with such an adventurer is a great opportunity for us. The affiliation is a natural fit and aligns with our sports strategy, which is to back the underdogs of brilliance in Aussie sport”.

This is the latest in a series of sports focused partnerships for Red Agency, which helped the Icebirds bobsled team, featuring  former world champion hurdler and Olympian Jana Pittman, raise more than $100k in 2013 and will also sponsor Manly Vale Football Club for their 2014 season as it looks to back-up its league title from last year.
