Reddo app for RUSSH makes Apple’s list of top magazine apps

An app developed by Sydney-based Reddo Media Services has been named by Apple as one of the top apps featured on Newsstand, the area of the App Store for periodical publications.

The announcement:

RUSSH Media’s popular fashion, beauty, art and music magazine, RUSSH, has been selected as one of Apple’s Top Six best Newsstand apps for 2012.

Originally available only in print, RUSSH Media (the sister company to Switzer Media  + Publishing) launched its digital edition 12 months ago. In the app’s first year, RUSSH Magazine experienced a rise in print circulation as well as over 20,000 new downloads and subscribers for the digital edition.

The RUSSH app was developed by Sydney-based Reddo Media Services. The digital publishing agency is thrilled to see one of its first projects recognised by Apple as one of the top apps available from Newsstand, the area of the App Store dedicated to periodical publications.

Reddo CEO Shane Mitchell said, “Working with the publishers to transform RUSSH  into a tablet magazine has validated our belief that digital publications should be far  more than literal PDF replicas. Interactive advertising, bonus embedded content and other digital features give publishers far more opportunities to attract new subscribers and boost revenue. The huge success of RUSSH in 2012 been extremely rewarding to watch.”

Russh Media and Reddo collaborated to create a digital business model designed to  exploit every opportunity of the platform. The digital edition has reached new readers  the print edition couldn’t reach, including internationally.

Other Australian Newsstand apps singled out by Apple include; Donna Hay, Coles,  Mindfood, Cosmos and Men’s Health Australia. Three of the six magazines were built using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), rounding off a stellar year of market share growth in Australia for the US software company. Adobe DPS is already recognised as the platform of choice for the majority of the world’s highest magazine rated apps.
