Relief for Ten as Masterchef delivers 1m+ series debut

The debut of the ninth series of Ten’s flagship show Masterchef has delivered an improved performance on last year with a metro audience of 1.06m viewers.

Much to Ten’s relief Masterchef made a solid return

The result will come as a huge relief for Ten which has faced a disastrously sliding share price over the last few days as financial concerns mount.

The ratings were up on the metro audience of 1.012m for the debut of Masterchef’s eighth series.

Masterchef was also the most watched program in the key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

According to media intelligence monitoring by Meltwater, conversation around Masterchef was broadly positive.

In all-people, Nine’s The Voice was the top rating reality show, with an audience of 1.169m, while Seven News (1.201m) was most watched program of Monday night.

However, the second episode of Seven’s House Rules slumped to 606,000 metro viewers, well down on Sunday night’s premiere audience of 1m.

Ten’s audience share of 15.3% was almost double the network’s performance at the same time last week.

However, Nine won the night with a 22.4% share, while Seven had a 16.8% audience share. ABC averaged 13.9% .
