Review identifies three options for Tasmania

A report from consultancy company The Nous Group has identified three main options for Screen Tasmania to focus on for the next five years.

The recommendations for the agency are the development for sustainable businesses, a stronger focus on securing major projects for the state, and development of local projects.

  1. Enterprise development -most likely in animation, multimedia, and documentaries –and attracting an established production company to grow their business in Tasmania.
  2. Production activity focus -Focus on securing major projects for Tasmania which deliver a high level of ongoing production activity. The Nous Group provides TV drama series McLeod’s Daughters (South Australia) as an example.
  3. Local development -Developing Tasmanian projects and people, shepherding through the local production of Tasmanian projects.

The agency review and strategic planning process was announced in September, with Nous’s independent review as the first stage. The report can be downloaded here.

The next stage is being conducted by industry strategist Geoff  of Heriot Media and Governance, and will include discussions with Screen Tasmania’s management and key stakeholders. It is expected to be completed in October, with plans to submit the results to Cabinet for the next budget bid cycle.

Practitioners interested in discussing the report or the review should contact Screen Tasmania on (03) 6233 6995 or info@screen.tas.gov.au.
