Richard Gray’s AFL film Blinder announces cast

Director Richard Gray

Casting has been announced for Australian AFL film Blinder, directed by Summer Coda’s Richard Gray.

Oliver Ackland (The Slap, Cloudstreet, Wasted on the Young), Rose McIver (The Lovely Bones), Steve Bisley (Red Hill), Angus Sampson (Insidious), Anna Hutchison (Wild Boys), Zoe Carides (Death in Brunswick) and Bob Morley (Road Train) will begin a 10 week shoot in Torquay Victoria on February 20 before moving to Boston Massachusetts.

Written by Gray, Scott Didier and Michele Gray, the film is produced by the three as well as AFL greats Glenn Archer, Adrian Gleeson and Sam Kekovich as well as Virginia Kay, Bryce Menzies and US producers Chris Lemole and Mike Gillespie.

The story is of an ex-footballer who reignites an old flame after a long absence away from his home town, Blinder promises to be “a sports drama brimming with romance and scandal.”

Gray said: “We have locations from Torquay to Apollo Bay – and they’re just stunning. I have a huge passion for football and can’t wait to bring the action to the big screen, an emotional but uplifting story that a large audience can get behind.”

Producer Archer said: “An Aussie Rules film has been a long time coming. Considering it’s the most watched and most tribal sport in the country, BLINDER will be a film that will capture the imagination of the footy world.”
