Richmond Tigers launch virtual premiership cup tour

To celebrate Richmond’s 2020 win of the AFL premiership, the Tigers will launch a virtual cup tour.

The announcement:

The entire Tiger Army will have the chance to lift the premiership cup this year, no matter where they are around the world.

Richmond members and fans will be able to take photos with the cup, place it in front of their favourite landmarks, on objects, or even with their pets using innovative augmented reality technology created by fan marketing platform Tradeable Bits.

The lifelike, easily accessible filter is available now and ready to be shared by Tiger fans with their friends and family.

“I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a year like no other, but I am thrilled that we have still been able to find a way for our fans to celebrate and share in our collective success,” said Richmond CEO Brendon Gale.

“With travel and events in general not possible around the country, we have again had to adapt in the way we do things. We cannot wait to see the different places the cup pops up and hope fans take great pride in sharing photos with their friends through social media.

“The support of the Tiger Army and the way we have been able to connect and stay united throughout 2020 has been remarkable, and when possible, we look forward to being able to celebrate our triumph together as one.”

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and subsequent challenges and potential risks to the health and safety of fans, the Club will embrace the virtual premiership tour instead of the national roadshows seen in 2017 and 2019.

Tim Mullaly Partnerships Manager at Tradeable Bits, said the company wanted to recreate the colour, sound and passion of Grand Final day celebrations when designing the augmented reality.

“Painstaking 3D rendering of the premiership cup has delivered an amazingly realistic experience, with the cup front and centre as fans cheer into the forward-facing camera to launch confetti cannons and the Richmond theme song, along with unfurling the premiership flag,” he said.

Tradeable Bits CEO, Darshan Kaler, added the company was thrilled to collaborate with Richmond on an innovative industry-first product.

“Delivering a cutting-edge digital solution to celebrate the premiership success of a foundation Australian partner; it doesn’t get much better,” he said.

The augmented reality 2020 premiership cup is now available through the Richmond Football Club official Instagram page.
