News Corp journalist Robbie Patterson has been promoted to editor of the Manly Daily, replacing Steve Howard who retired at the end of last year.

He started his career at the News-Corp owned Centralian Advocate in Alice Springs in 2010, before returning to Sydney a year later. He has since worked for a number of News Local publications as well as a reporter at The Daily Telegraph.

Patterson said he is looking forward to the new gig, which he commenced today, and building even closer connections with the local community.

“As a long-standing News Local journalist committed to local, community news, I am proud to be the new editor of the Manly Daily, particularly at a time when our focus is to get even closer to our community,” he said.

“The Manly Daily, in its new compact format, will continue to be the trusted, proud voice for the northern beaches community, campaigning for the issues that matter and providing the most up-to-date information and entertainment.

“As editor of the Manly Daily, I am proud of the role we play in our communities and the connection we share with our readers and advertisers. I’d like to thank our advertisers for their support of our ongoing evolution to ensure our newspaper remains the trusted, proud voice for our community in the years ahead.”

In December 2017, the Manly Daily was scaled back to two editions per week, which are released on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It had previously been published Tuesday through to Saturday.

In a leadership shuffle this morning, it was announced current CEO of The Australian, Nicholas Gray, would also be taking care of News Local titles.
