Russel Howcroft-hosted doco on ad agency Mojo to air on ABC on 1 October

At 8:30pm on Tuesday, 1 October, the documentary on ad agency Mojo will go to air on the ABC.

The one-hour documentary is produced by CJZ, hosted by Gruen panellist and PwC’s chief creative officer Russel Howcroft, and will feature interviews with Paul Hogan, John Cornell, Ita Buttrose, John Singleton, Ian Chappell and insiders from Mojo.

Russel Howcroft said the show is part of his love letter to Aussie advertising

Mojo – Alan ‘Mo’ Morris and Allan ‘Jo’ ‘Johnston – was behind some of Australia’s most iconic ad campaigns after it was formed in 1979.

It was behind the 1984 Tourism Australia ad campaign featuring Paul Hogan, and the ‘C’mon Aussie, C’mon’ cricket push.

In 2016, after almost 40 years, the Mojo brand was retired by holding group Publicis.

“This is the story of how two unpretentious geniuses re-wrote the rule book in advertising. From ‘How do ya feel?’ to Paul Hogan putting ‘another shrimp on the barbie’. They had a hit parade of jingles and ads that did much more than sell products, they changed the way we thought about ourselves, and helped take a new Australian identity to the world,” said Howcroft.

“This is the beginning of my love letter to Australian advertising.”
