SAFC and ABC partner for factual entertainment initiative

ABC TV and the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) have launched The FACTory, a $2.1m initiative aimed at developing original ideas for a series of factual programs.

Through The FACTory, ABC TV will commission up to 20 half hour programs to be produced out of South Australia.

The FACTory complements and builds on the SAFC’s development initiatives  FilmLab and TV MiniLab, as well as the state’s strategy to re-vitalise its TV sector.

“Along with Adelaide Studios’ opening in mid 2011 this sends a strong national message that South Australia is focused on and ready for a strengthening of production activity in the state. The ABC’s involvement in this initiative shows their confidence in the South Australian industry to deliver,” said Acting Minister for the Arts John Hill.

“Instead of being commissioned for one-off programs, successful local production companies will be able to develop longer factual series, which will air on ABC1,” added SAFC CEO Richard Harris.

Further details are available at www.safilm.com.au; applications close on January 17.
