Fairfax sales department grows while AFR subs axed

Just a day after announcing 13 sub editors were to be made redundant at the Australian Financial Review, Fairfax Media has created two new roles in its sales department.

Following the recently-announced changes to its national sales division which include the promotion of Paul Sigaloff to National Sales Director, Fairfax Metro Media today announced that it had created two new senior sales roles within Sigaloff’s expanded remit.

Ben Gunn has been appointed National Trading Director, with responsibility for managing, analysing and growing contracted business nationally across the Metro Media portfolio.

Chris Freel has been appointed NSW Agency Sales Director, responsible for running the agency sales team in NSW, and developing client relationships across all Sydney- based agencies.

“The fact that both of these new roles were filled by internal candidates demonstrates the impressive calibre and high levels of skill in our own team,” Sigaloff said.

“It’s always gratifying to be able to promote talented and passionate people from within the company into important new positions.”

He added: “As agencies continue to adapt to the changing media landscape we’re also evolving our business, to ensure we are best placed to serve our customers’ needs.

“These new roles will help us meet our objectives of building market share over our competitors and entrenching our market leading position.”
