Sally and Erica depart Triple J breakfast after just one year

National youth broadcaster Triple J is shaking up its breakfast offering, with Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett to be replaced in 2021.

Sally and Erica have spent just one year in the role, having replaced Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton in 2020 when the pair left for Nova Adelaide after a three-year stint at Triple J.

Triple J will have a new breakfast show in 2021

As well as departing the breakfast show, Sally and Erica will leave Triple J entirely, after four years in various hosting roles.

The pair got their start on overnights in 2017, before getting some daylight hours on weekend afternoons a year a later.

Over the next couple of years they filled in on slots including Drive, Good Nights, The Hip Hop Show and Summer Arvos, before taking on the coveted breakfast slot in 2020.

Coleman said she was thankful to have spent four years at Triple J.

“I’m so incredibly grateful to have spent the last four years as part of Australia’s biggest family of music lovers. It’s been a wild ride – from a one-off guest slot with Matt & Alex to taking the reins of Breakfast ourselves,” she said.

“I’ve had so many pinch-myself moments, but the most amazing part of my time at Triple J has been the audience. Triple J listeners never fail to make me cackle, warm my heart and inspire me.

“I’ve loved waking up with you every morning – thank you for everything. I can’t wait to show you what’s next!”

Mallett echoed the sentiment of her partner, shouting out the receptive Triple J audience.

“The weird thing about listening to Triple J is that it makes you feel like you have tens of thousands of friends. That’s exactly how I’ve felt for the last four years, being lucky enough to hear from you,” she added.

“Whether it’s just a song request on the text line, a call in to say hey, a story about your weekend or a dumb thing you did as a kid, I’ve loved every minute of the crazy, passionate energy that comes from the Triple J audience. Thank you for everything.

“It’s time for me to hang up the headphones for now and focus on other things (a little later in the day than 6am). I’ll catch you very soon.”

Triple J will announce a permanent replacement soon, while Bryce Mills will occupy the breakfast slot in the interim.
