Sam Mac leaves Perth’s 92.9 for east coast

Perth radio presenter Sam Mac will leave the Today Network’s 92.9 after three years behind the mic.

The presenter known for his ‘pisstake humour’ and gotcha calls will return to Sydney after his last show on December 2.

A busy schedule has seen him juggle radio in Perth as well as regular appearances on Ten’s 7pm Project as both the Perth’s Friday ‘whip around’ correspondent and occasional guest presenter on the Melbourne desk.

Mac has not yet solidified a Sydney posting. He told Mumbrella: “I’ve signed with Profile Talent Management and we’ve been working closely. There are a few bites but nothing I can confirm. I think there are a few opportunities and now that the announcement is out there that should increase.”

Linda Wayman, 92.9’s GM, said: “It’s one of those cases of taking his career to the next step. His partner Patrice (Pandeleos) ran against Kristina Keneally for the Sydney seat in the last state election – and she also has strong career aspirations. It’s a leap of faith and what better time than when you’re young and in your late twenties.”

Mac, real last name McMillan, began his career in radio presenting the Today Network’s Hot 30 Countdown in Sydney before replacing Michael ‘Wippa’ Wiplfi in Perth on the Breakfast Show.

With a month left in Perth, Mac is still working with The 7PM Project on some Perth-related pieces and is hopeful that, with the news of the program’s extension to an hour, it should lead to more work, confirming Profile are also working closely with the show.

Despite Mumbrella hearing rumours that Mac had signed on to Sydney’s Triple M breakfast show, The Grill Team, he said, “I’ve not been approached. That’s the first I’ve heard. I don’t know enough about rugby league.”

A representative from Southern Cross Austereo also denied the rumours of a move.

As well as his radio and his TV slots, Mac also hosts is own youtube show Lights Camera Maction, interviewing radio and TV personalities such as Andy Lee, Shaun Micallef and the Bondi Vet.
