Sam McLeod to leave Coles

Sam McLeod, GM of brand, digital and design at Coles will exit the supermarket chain, Mumbrella can reveal.

McLeod’s final day is on Friday 16 December. McLeod has been approached for comment and Coles declined to add anything further.

McLeod joined in 2021 as part of Lisa Ronson’s team, however now follows Ronson out the door after her departure just months ago, following the reappointment of Omnicom as its bespoke agency partner.

McLeod’s remit included the delivery of a unified brand and digital marketing strategy for Coles.

Coles’ chief executive, commercial & express, Leah Weckert, told staff on Thursday in an internal email seen by Mumbrella: “I would like to share with you that Sam McLeod, GM brand, digital & design, has decided to leave Coles to pursue external opportunities.

“I want to thank Sam for her contribution to Coles over the past 15 months, particularly her work in establishing Value the Australian Way, developing this year’s Christmas campaign and communicating our value proposition to customers. Sam has also implemented new digital tools across marketing and played an important part in the creation of our own specialised marketing agency Smith Street, which officially launches in the new year.

“Bianca Mundy will act as GM brand, digital & design on an interim basis while we undertake a recruitment process to fill the role.”

Coles released its new Christmas campaign via DDB and OMD in November, as McLeod gave Mumbrella an inside look at its creation.

Prior to joining Coles, McLeod served as business lead at creative agency BBH London, in that time working on Tesco’s creative account where she led the company’s COVID communications response.
