Samsung TV Plus reveals new channel lineup

Samsung Electronics Australia has launched a number of new channels to its free ad-supported smart TV service, Samsung TV Plus.

The new Australia and New Zealand channels launched on the 25th January, and are part of Samsung’s latest global content initiative, streaming 1,600 channels across 24 countries, spanning news, sports, entertainment and international programming.

Adding to the recent channel launches of The Movie Hub, Mythbusters, Throwback TV and Entertainment Hub, Samsung TV Plus Australia this year unveils a series of new programming partnerships, with new channel Drama Daily set to feature the likes of ER and Cold Case, while Deal or No Deal with have its own dedicated channel from Banijay Rights.

Since its Australian launch in November 2020, the advertising-based video on demand (AVOD) service has expanded its content offering to more than 90 channels locally, and hundresds of shows live and on-demand from brands such as Bloomberg TV, Bondi Vet, ITV Choice, TED, Tastemade and FUEL TV.

The new channels come after a period of significant growth for Samsung TV Plus in the last six months, during which it has reported to have increased its monthly active users by 38% and total viewing by 61%.

On the launch of new ANZ channels, Alex Spurzem, general manager of Samsung Ads Australia and New Zealand, said: “With streaming giants, such as Netflix, adopting new ad-supported tiers and YouTube announcing its transition into the FAST space, we will see the popularity of free ad-supported models significantly grow in 2023. The appetite for free content in return for watching ads holds massive appeal amongst Australian/NZ audiences and savvy marketers will be looking to capitalise on this growing opportunity. Samsung TV Plus continues to offer the next generation of free TV experience.“
