Sandpiper appoints new managing director for ANZ
Independent comms and public affairs group Sandpiper has appointed a new local managing director in Angus Booth.
Based in Sydney, Booth will lead the firm’s strategic direction and growth across the Australian and New Zealand markets. He will oversee business performance, as well as expansions in the energy, financial, health, professional services, property and infrastructure, and technology sectors.
Existing Sydney-based MD Francesca Boase will continue her role in a global capacity, overseeing professional services practices. She has taken on additional responsibility however, as the global managing director of insurance — one of Sandpiper’s fasting-growing practice areas.

Booth has over 20 years of experience in communications, including most recently as senior managing director at Sodali & Co. There, he led the APAC and EMEA mergers and acquisitions (M&A), activism, and corporate governance shareholder engagement practices. Under his leadership, according to a media release, the team supported transactions totalling over $400 billion.
He has also held senior roles at major companies including Lendlease and property fund manager Charter Hall.
“Australia and New Zealand are important markets for us, and Angus is a leader with an impressive track record who brings highly valuable experience across both corporate and financial communications that will add further value to our clients and support our next phase of growth,” Sandpiper’s chief executive, Emma Smith, said in the release.
“I would also like to congratulate Fran on her achievements in the market to date and to celebrate her immense continued success in growing our insurance and professional services practices globally.”
Booth said he’s “honoured” to join the independent group at “such a transformative time”.
The agency has grown across the APAC and EMEA regions, now with 13 locations — Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Perth, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo. It also has affiliates across 27 markets globally.
Over the past two years, Sandpiper has also won various global and regional PR and corporate comms awards, including being named Asia Pacific Agency of the Year by PRovoke, PRWeek, the PRCA, and Public Affairs Asia.
The agency also recently appointed Simon Buckby to lead its government and public affairs unit, headquartered in Singapore. Dr Craig Wilkie was also appointed, as director, to support Buckby.
