Save Your Legs! goes for slow build

Save Your Legs!, a comedy film about a group of amateur Australian cricket players in India has been announced to open on Thursday January 24 2013, ahead of Australia Day.

The film has released its first teaser ahead of its world premiere at Melbourne International Film Festival tomorrow with the intention to benefit from a long lead campaign.

The film is directed by Boyd Hicklin, written by Brendan Cowell and produced by Robyn Kershaw and Nick Batzias, and distributed locally through Madman Entertainment. Batzias told Encore: “It gives us time to let people know what the film will deliver. We know it will deliver, its just about getting people into that dark room with it.”

Batzias who is in licensing and business affairs Madman Entertainment said the film would be a big release for the indie distributor locally and is well-placed with a number of feel-good Australian films with broad appeal such as The Sapphires, Mental and Kath & Kimderella due out over the next few months.

Batzias hoped to coincide the film’s release in India and the UK with Australian cricket team’s international tours next year

Batzias said “We’re talking with Indian distributors at the moment. We’d be looking at an Indian release in the first quarter of 2013. The Australian team is touring India in March so there is some serendipity at play there. They’re also in England for the Ashes in July. We’ll play the cricket card a little harder in those markets.”

Shot in India in December of 2011, the film isn’t just a cricket film but billed as a ‘coming-of-middle-age bromance’ starring Cowell, Stephen Curry, Damon Gameau and Grant Piro, and is based on a documentary of the same name, also by Hicklin.
