SBS launches Foundation to divvy up airtime to charities

sbs-logoBroadcaster SBS is to set up a foundation to channel $2m of airtime to a stable of Australian charities.

Although the channel has previously donated airtime on an adhoc basis, corporate communications manager Jane McMillan said that the intention of the SBS Foundation would be to help causes plan their communications more strategically.

Around 20 charities a year, across areas including the arts, multicultural, indigenous, environmental, health and sports, will be supported by the foundation which will provide them with airtime amounting to several minutes per day.

The organisation’s MD Shaun Brown said: “SBS will dedicate significant airtime and ressources towards a more targeted television campaign for a select group of charities why have a synergy with SBS’s charter.”

He said charities selected by a committee would receive 12 months of support.
