SBS’ national head of TV and digital sales steps down

Andrew Mudgway has stepped down from his role as national TV and digital sales manager at SBS, as the Special Broadcasting Service looks to relocate the Melbourne-based role to Sydney.

In a note shared to SBS staff, director of media sales Adam Sadler announced the departure, citing Mudgway’s decision to remain in Melbourne for family reasons.

Mudgway exits after five years at SBS, having joined the broadcaster in 2018 from Fairfax, where he was national agency sales director. He has also spent a significant time working agency side, having started out at George Patterson, before moving onto various roles at DDB Melbourne, OMD Paris, Zenith and Initiative Melbourne.

“During the past five years I have worked shoulder to shoulder with Mudge who has been a key player in our commercial success,” wrote Sadler. “He has ensured SBS consistently punches above our weight in revenue and share across Television and Digital markets”

Sadler also credited Mudgway with having played a lead role in the evolution of SBS’ commercial strategy, in particular highlighting his role in the revenue success of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The broadcaster has since secured the rights to the 2026 competition.

“He in collaboration with the team, produced record advertising revenue for SBS and has been a key player in ensuring that the market understands and recognises the unique and differentiated offer SBS has in market,” said Sadler.

In light of the “important sensitivities” of his role, Mudgway has been placed on gardening leave effective from 15 December.
