Jeanie Davison is set to become the head of business development at Screen Careers.
The announcement:
After a successful 12 months since its launch, Screen Careers is set to enter a new chapter with the announcement that Jeanie Davison will take over as the organisation’s new head of business development following the retirement of industry veteran Fiona Gilroy.
Jeanie will join the team at this pivotal moment, working to expand and enhance the reach of the organisation’s initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities within the Australian screen industry.
Jeanie brings over two decades of expertise in film and TV development and production, having worked with leading global broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Netflix. Her distinguished career includes senior roles at Screen Australia, the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and Media Mentors Australia. Most recently, she has been serving as general manager at Media Mentors Australia before transitioning to Screen Careers earlier this year. Jeanie has also executive produced international projects, directed content for high-profile non-profits like UNICEF, and co-curated the Adventure Travel Film Festival.
In its first year, Screen Careers has made significant strides in supporting industry professionals with innovative, accessible training programs. The organisation has launched five free e-learning programs – Tackling Bullying and Harassment at Work, Mentoring for Mentors, Mentoring for Mentees, Addressing Unconscious Bias in the Workplace and Set Educated, available nationwide. In addition, it has hosted in-person workshops for new entrants and delivered training for senior crew on Leadership and Management. Live online sessions have covered topics such as Having Difficult Conversations, How to Write a CV to Get Noticed and Leading Inclusively.
“I’m excited to step into this new role at Screen Careers,” said Jeanie. “The organisation has already made a profound impact and I look forward to helping it grow and evolve, ensuring we continue to empower and support those who work in below-the-line roles in our vibrant screen industry. It’s a privilege to be part of such an inspiring, purpose-driven team.”
Fiona Gilroy is retiring after more than 35 years in the screen industry, primarily in distribution roles at Film Australia, SBS and Flame Distribution. “I’ve had a fantastic career working alongside many inspiring creatives in the film and television industry, both locally and internationally. Screen Careers has been the icing on the cake – I’ll miss being part of such an enthusiastic and passionate team, delivering real change for crew in Australia and I wish them all continued success.”
As the new head of business development, Jeanie will be at the forefront of driving Screen Careers’ vision of creating more inclusive pathways and opportunities for individuals within the screen industry across Australia.
