Screen NSW to invest in 20 new local film and TV productions

Screen New South Wales has announced it will offer production investment to 20 Australian film and television programs.

The announcement follows the 2015/16 drama report, which revealed Australia spent a record $376m on local television production in the past financial year.

Among the 20 programs, seven local television dramas will be funded under the new $20m Made in NSW fund, which was announced earlier this year.

Screen NSW has now invested $3.5m to attract all productions to NSW and is an investor in the Made in NSW Fund productions including Monkey, The Fighting Season, Pulse, Friday On My Mind and Love Child, which has been funded for another season.

The total production expenditure expects to bring more than $63m in investment to NSW and boasts approximately 3,158 skilled jobs.

Courtney Gibson, CEO of Screen NSW, said she believes the Made in NSW fund is making an impact.

“With the Made in NSW fund we set out to attract high-end, distinctive local TV production to NSW, as well as to support the attraction of significant footloose production. Just six months in, the Fund is having a big impact,” Gibson said.

Love Child Nine

Love Child will return for another season under the Made in NSW fund

“It has revitalised local television drama production and has brought big international productions here such as Jackie Chan’s Bleeding Steel and Animal Logic’s Peter Rabbit movie.”

Other projects to receive funding include TV series The Letdown, and The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill.

Program production is not limited to one particular location in NSW, with producers working in areas such as Northern Rivers, Broken Hill, Manning Valley, Western Sydney and Wagga Wagga.
