Seachange reboot will land on Nine August 6

Nine’s much-hyped Seachange reboot will land on the channel on August 6 at 8:45pm.

The show returns to screens for the first time since 2000 when it wrapped up after 39 episodes on ABC.

Sigrid Thornton will return to the role of Laura Gibson, John Howard will reprise his role as Bob Jelly, as will Kerry Armstrong who plays his estranged wife Heather, and Kevin Harrington as Kevin Findlay.

New cast members will include Brooke Satchwell as Laura’s oldest child Miranda,+ and Dan Wylie as Ben Russo.

The reboot picks up two decades after the show left off, with Thornton’s character heading back to Pearl Bay after being fired from her volunteer job in Africa.

The initial premise of the show, which first aired in 1998, followed Thornton’s character’s move to Pearl Bay from her life as a high-flying lawyer, after her husband is charged with fraud.

Deb Cox, who created the original Seachange and was head writer, has also returned for the project as executive producer. Cox joins Thornton, Fiona Eager, David Mott and Nine’s co-heads of drama Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney.

Speaking at Nine’s 2019 upfronts, Ryan said the show was ‘perfect family entertainment’.

“Two decades after Seachange changed the face of Australian drama, Pearl Bay is still a hotbed of romance, mateship and community spirit,” Ryan said.

Rooney said the channel was excited to bring the show back for a new generation.

“Seachange is one of Australia’s most successful and best-loved dramas, and we’re excited to rekindle that magic for a new generation of viewers,” she said.

Seachange ran for three seasons on ABC, airing on Sunday nights and pulling strong ratings for the broadcaster. It was one of the first roles for David Wenham, and saw guest appearances from Mark Mitchell, Shaun Micallef and Kate Atkinson.

Seachange is an Every Cloud Productions and ITV Studios Australia production for Nine, with major production investment from Screen Australia and finance support from Create NSW. It is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
