Seinfeld legend Jason Alexander fronts new Uber Eats campaign
Jason Alexander, known best for his role as George Costanza in the iconic sitcom Seinfeld, is the star in the latest Uber Eats campaign via Special, where the aftermath of awkwardly struggling to land a joke at a dinner party proves too much.
Realising one can ‘Get Almost, Almost Anything’ on Uber Eats, the US actor searches for canned laughter to play off his cheesy joke, making his dinner party guests laugh alongside the sound of an audience laugh-track.
But, things quickly go pear shaped as the laughter soon turns chaotic, stalking his every remark.
“There’s always been a special part in my heart for comedy and the iconic tropes of television of yesteryear,” Alexander said.
“Working with Uber Eats in a way that was a self-deprecating homage to these elements and why they perhaps don’t hold true today was genuinely great fun.”
Uber ANZ’s brand lead, Channa Goonesakara, said: “This campaign would not have worked with anyone else in the world. We were over the moon to be able to work with Jason on this latest iteration of our brand platform. His comedic calamity is instantly recognisable. His performance is brilliantly nostalgic as it builds throughout the hero brand film.
“He was the perfect custodian to build on the work of Kendall and Kris Jenner, Nicola Coughlan and Tom Felton to remind Aussies and Kiwis that you can get almost, almost anything on Uber Eats these days.”
Special’s creative director, James Sexton, said it was a pleasure bringing the sitcom trope to life, as well as bringing back “Jason’s very distinct brand of misery”.
“It’s not only a fun brand statement, but feels like a reward for his fans,” he said.
Harry Neville-Towle, also creative director at Special, added: “Jason Alexander’s life being ruined by canned laughter feels like a great continuation of Uber Eats’ now well known self-deprecating tone and open admissions that they don’t deliver everything.
“It’s also more entertaining evidence you really really don’t want us to.”
The campaign launched during the halftime show at the AFL Grand Final over the weekend.
It has been exported globally to Taiwan, Spain, Mexico, the US, Canada, Chile, Sri Lanka and Portugal.

It had better be a corker … 65 people listed in the Credits.

I saw this on the weekend and didn’t realise it was George! I used to love Seinfeld but in my distracted TV ad watching moment didn’t put two and two together… awks

Seeing three comms people include themselves in the already bloated list of credits is cringe.

Putting the CEOs/CCOs in the credit list is actually ludicrous stuff
