Seven continues its Friday night winning streak with news and AFL

Seven has continued its Friday night winning streak with the broadcast of the AFL. The game between the Geelong Cats and the Adelaide Crows was the highest-rated, non-news program of the evening attracting 615,000 metro viewers across Seven in Melbourne and Adelaide, and 7Mate in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. 319,000 viewers tuned in from Melbourne and 150,000 from Adelaide – only 23,000 viewers came from Sydney.

The AFL sat at the top of both key advertising demographics the 18 to 49s and the 25 to 54s. In the younger demographic, it was followed by the second half of Seven News – which airs as Today Tonight in some markets – and the first half of its news offering.

Seven News and Seven News/Today Tonight topped the metro viewer ratings, attracting 931,000 and 891,000 viewers respectively.

Seven’s AFL offering continues to contribute to its Friday night winning streak

Coming in behind Seven’s news offering was Nine News’ first half with 778,000 metro viewers and 6:30pm slot with 739,000 metro viewers. Nine’s broadcast of the NRL game between the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm attracted 386,000 metro viewers in the same time slot as the AFL.

Seven’s AFL pre-match coverage also beat out the NRL with 5,000 more viewers.

Adding to Seven’s success was The Chase Australia coming in as the sixth highest rated program with 586,000 metro viewers, and Better Homes and Gardens with 545,000 viewers.

Seven’s primary channel comfortably won the evening, with 25.2%, ahead of Nine’s 15.4%. The ABC placed third with a round 15.0% of the audience, while Ten had 10.0%. SBS had just 3.0%.

Combining the network’s multichannels – 7Two, 7Mate, 7Flix, and 7Food Network – Seven also comfortably took out the night with a 36.1% share, ahead of Nine Network’s 24%.

The ABC Network earned a 19.8% audience with its successful offering of ABC News, crime drama Endeavour and Gardening Australia on its primary channel, which attracted 582,000, 579,000 and 455,000 metro viewers, respectively.

Network Ten came in fourth with a 14.8% share.
