Seven and Nine fight for near equal audience share

Seven and Nine shared the largest audiences last night sharing the top nine programs all with audience of over 1m.

Seven News was the strongest performer of the night with 1.259m followed by Nine’s repeat episode of US sitcom The Big Bang Theory which averaged 1.232m after a new episode drew in 1.158m viewers at 7.30pm. Both episodes were the top programs in people 25-54.

Meanwhile Seven’s episode of Highway Patrol averaged 1.o22m and Air Rescue had 866,000 metro viewers according to the preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

The Blacklist averaged 1.037m for Seven and was third in people 25-54. The Blacklist was Seven’s strongest entertainment program after Home and Away, which rated 1.037m.

Channel Ten pulled A League of Their Own in favour of two repeat episodes of Modern Family and had 501,000 and 564,000 viewers for each. Homeland followed the sitcom and averaged 411,000 metro viewers for Ten and was fourth in its time slot after The Blacklist, 2 Broke Girls on Nine and Four Corners on ABC1.

Seven and Nine had an almost equal share of the audience with Seven winning a 21.7 per cent share and Nine taking 21 per cent of the audience. Channel Ten’s audience share was 10.1 per cent while ABC1 had a 14 per cent share of the audience.

In the breakfast battle Sunrise averaged 378,000 for Seven while Today had 338,000. Ten’s breakfast show Wake Up averaged 27,000 metro viewers, and 28,000 watched the early portion between 6.30am and 7am.

Ten’s panel show Studio Ten averaged 31,000 viewers, while The Morning Show brought 169,000 to Seven and Nine’s Mornings averaged 135,000.
