Seven romps to Friday night win as AFL proves more popular than NRL

AFLChannel Seven easily dominated a quiet Friday night on the TV with its AFL coverage beating Nine’s NRL match up in prime time.

Seven’s broadcast of the North Melbourne Kangaroos defeat of Richmond Tigers drew in 410,000 viewers in Melbourne and Adelaide, while Nine’s showing of Manly’s defeat by Canberra in the NRL managed 373,000 in Sydney and Brisbane.

Overall Seven News won the night with 989,000 metro viewers according to OzTam overnight metro ratings, beating Nine News at 6pm which had 966,000 viewers., although Nine’s 6.30pm bulletin held stronger with 905,000 viewers compared to 884,000 for Seven.

Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens at 7pm in all cities but Adelaide was the most watched non-news show of the night with 705,000 viewers, while the second half hour of gameshow The Chase Australia was just behind with 682,000 viewers.

Ten’s best shot was The Living Room at 7.30pm which managed 611,000.

Seven managed a main channel share of 22% for the night ahead of Nine’s 16%, Ten’s 12.7% and ABC’s 11%.
