Seven shuffles programming to carry rescue live

Seven has this morning dropped normal programming with Sunrise staying on air to cover the rescue of the trapped Chilean miners.

As well as dropping The Morning Show, the network switched to live coverage across Australia rather than the standard time delayed programming for each timezone.

Nine is carrying coverage of the rescue on Mornings With Kerri-Anne, although at the time of posting the network remains on timezone delay, meaning that viewers in Perth will potentially see the rescue three hours later.

Ten has stuck with normal programming with chat show The Circle on air this morning, although it has also been carrying updates from the rescue site. A spokesman told Mumbrella that the network will break in on its Commonwealth Games coverage whne the moment of rescue comes.

Because the games are on the sports anti-siphoning list, the network will not be allowed to stick with the games on digital channel One if Ten breaks in with news coverage. The only exemption granted for split coverage is for Ten to carry its 5pm bulletin live while the games continue on One.

Sky News and ABC News 24 have been carrying virtually continuous coverage.

1.40pm update: Seven, which switched from Sunrsie to rolling Seven News coverage , was the only free to air network to carry the moment live when the first rescuer arrived underground. Nine was also covering the rescue but was an ad break.

2.15pm update: Seven, Nine, Ten, SBS1, Sky News, Sky Business News and ABC News 24 all carried live the moment that the first miner arrvied on the surface. ABC1 was the only main free to air channel not to do so.
