Seven signs Damien ‘The Bowlologist’ Fleming to commentate tests and Big Bash League

Former Australian bowler Damien Fleming has been signed by Seven to commentate tests and the Big Bash League, reuniting with Ricky Ponting in the box.

Fleming, who famously took a test hat-trick on debut and played a key role in the 1999 World Cup winning team, has previously worked with Ponting during Ten’s KFC Big Bash League coverage.

In April, Seven and Foxtel signed a $1bn, six-year cricket deal, which saw the networks nab the rights to broadcast the sport from Nine. The move signals the first time test matches and the Big Bash League will all be shown in one place.

“Seven has delivered iconic sports coverage to Australians for many years so it’s very exciting to have the opportunity to join their cricket broadcast team and contribute to something really special,” said Fleming.

“It will be exciting to continue my relationship with Ricky Ponting in the commentary box and I’m sure all Aussie cricket fans will enjoy the innovative new coverage Seven will be bringing to Big Bash and Test Match cricket.”

Seven’s head of cricket Dave Barham added: “There was no ‘avenue of apprehension’ when it came to getting Flem to Seven. He is a highly entertaining commentator with theories and expressions that resonate with fans, and cricket and bowling knowledge that’s second to none.”

Seven’s landmark six-year agreement with Cricket Australia runs from 2018 through to 2024, includes domestic free-to-air broadcast rights to all the test matches as well as 43 of the 59 BBL matches each season.
