The announcement:

Seven West Media today confirmed the appointment of Andy Kay as General Manager of Channel Seven Adelaide.

Mr Kay will return to his hometown of Adelaide to take on the new role – in addition to his current role as General Manager of Olympics and Commonwealth Games – following the resignation of Tony Davison last week.

Mr Kay joined Seven in 1984 and held a number of key roles in the Adelaide newsroom for 13 years before taking on his current role. He has now been at the helm of Seven’s coverage of 11 Olympic Games over the past two decades, last year working with the team that delivered the most technologically advanced coverage of any event to all Australians with the all-encompassing coverage of Rio 2016.

Announcing the appointment of Mr Kay, Tim Worner, CEO of Seven West Media, said: “Andy has played an integral role in our company for more than three decades, for most of that time at the forefront of one of the most significant aspects of our success and progress – that being Seven’s coverage of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. He is South Australian through and through, from his early days at Seven Adelaide as the inaugural host of The Crows Show. And it’s this connection to his hometown, coupled with his gifted leadership, wealth of experience and ability to drive results that makes Andy best-placed to lead Seven Adelaide into another year of ratings dominance.”

Commenting, Mr Kay said: “Almost 33 years ago I began working at Seven Adelaide and I always said to myself that I’d be back. It is a privilege to take this role at such a pivotal and exciting time for Seven, and personally to be moving closer to family. I am looking forward to the challenge of this position and to work with an exceptionally talented team.”

Mr Kay will begin his new role on February 1.
