Seven wins Friday night ratings with a 24.7% audience share

Seven has dominated Friday night television with an average metro audience share of 24.7%.

Coming second to Seven was Nine with a 15.8% share followed by Ten’s 11.2%, ABC’s 9.8% and SBS’ 3.9% share.

According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings, Seven News was the most watched program of the evening as 921,000 metro viewers tuned in, while Nine News managed 911,000 metro viewers.

Nationally – including both regional and metro affiliate stations – Seven News pulled 1.500m ahead of Nine News’ 912,000.

Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens was the most watched non-news program pulling in 657,000 metro viewers and 1.102m nationally.

In sport, Seven’s AFL match between Geelong and Adelaide attracted 565,000 across Melbourne and Adelaide. 355,000 of those viewers were in Melbourne with the remaining 210,000 tuning in from Adelaide. Seven has a remarkable 38% audience share in Adelaide last night.

Incuding regional viewing, the AFL match managed to attract 708,000 viewers across the nation.

Nine’s NRL game averaged 374,000 in Sydney and Brisbane as Melbourne Storm beat the Parramatta Eels. 176,000 viewers watched from Sydney and 102,000 from Brisbane. Nationally the NRL game saw 623,000 tune in.

Friday night’s ratings victory means Seven is breathing down Nine’s neck for weekly share. Despite Nine’s State of Origin audience bump on Wednesday, Nine leads by just 21.9% to 21.4% with six days of the ratings week gone.
